Calving Season in the End-less plain of the Serengeti & Ngorongoro Conservation | Ndutu Area
This safari is aimed at the calving season when the massive herds of wildebeest arrive in the Southern most point of their migration over February and March. This is without doubt one of the best times for you to witness this extraordinary spectacle when the herds find themselves on the vast open plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains. Here over 8 000 calves are born per day. With the Calving Season Safari travel in custom designed 4×4 safari vehicles with open roofs for game viewing. This is a small group seat-in-vehicle safari with a maximum of 6 travellers per vehicle, all with window seats. Travelling for 11-days, the safari includes meals, accommodation, park entry fees and visit to Kilimanjaro & Moshi, Tarangire, Ndutu area, Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Ngorongoro Crater.

A tour to Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a great way to spend a day away from the bustle of town life. The walk to Materuni Waterfall offers a glimpse into the nature of Tanzania allowing you either to prepare your body for your holiday in Tanzania or stretch your muscles before or after the Safari and/or Kili climb.
The Materuni Waterfall tour starts with a walk through the area adjacent to the waterfall, rich in beautiful natural scenery of Tanzania. It is an opportunity to see how local fruit like mangoes, avocados, lemons, and bananas grow, as well as learn some of the local history, traditions, village economy, agricultural and cultural life. When you get to the waterfall, you can refresh yourself in the natural pool, so swimsuits will come in handy!
The tour continues with a visit to the local village lying in the coffee & banana plantations. Villagers will treat you with local lunch – (Chagga meal). When you are done with lunch, the villagers will demonstrate the process of coffee farming and guide you through the preparation of coffee from a bean to a cup. Sing and dance along with the Chagga people as they are grinding, roasting and boiling the beans.
Let’s go for a nice hike, a coffee experience and a fresh local lunch!
Leave Moshi town at about 08:30am Drive to Maasai Lodge in west Kilimanjaro and will arrive in time for lunch. Checking, freshen up and walk to the dining area for lunch and overnight stay.
After lunch rest by the swimming pool or in your room, followed with and experience Maasai activities later in the afternoon such as Spear throwing competition against the Maasai or a guided nature walk with a local Maasai guide to learn about different herbs and medicinal plants still used by Maasai people as well as more traditions and culture of the Maasai. Return to the lodge in the evening where Maasai Men will grill a goat on the fireplace while the women prepare the side dishes. You will get a chance to chat with the Maasai under the so called ‘Maasai Television’ and ask any questions about their lifestyle and culture. After Dinner the festivities traditionally continue well into the morning hours. Overnight at Maasai Lodge.
Live like a Maasai – for one whole day in your life. Maasai Day a great opportunity to experience Maasai traditions and culture. You will be wake up early in the morning to be dressed like a Maasai, go for sunrise walk, take you through some of the medicinal plant still used by Masai, followed with goat and cow milking experience in one of the Maasai settlement near to the lodge.

After breakfast, pack your bags and depart to Tarangire National Park. A welcome table will be set-either at the entrance gate or a short distance away, with tea and coffee, cold drinks and snacks, allowing you to refresh while your guide briefs you on the surrounding area. After hot/cold drinks and snacks, experience the beautiful Tarangire National Park on an afternoon game drive with one of the superb guides. Tarangire is traversed by the Tarangire River, which never dries up. Being the only source of water during the dry season, it draws hundreds of animals to the park, making for a wildlife and bird viewing spectacular. The landscape is varied, with grassy savannah plains, swamps, hills and spectacular baobabs. Enjoy your day in the park with game viewing in the evening transfer to the lodge to freshen up and relax, Once refreshed proceed to the dining area for dinner and a drink by the camp fire. Head out after breakfast for the transfer to Ndutu- Ngorongoro Conservation Area, part of the southern Serengeti eco-system. Majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains from December to April.
Explore the range of different habitats include swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world-famous Serengeti/Ngorongoro ecosystem short grass plains. See great herds of wildebeest and zebra. During this period the majority of the wildebeest calve. This is also time of year with the best predator action! Indeed, a fantastic time to view high concentration of wildlife. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they are born and within 3 days they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd. The marshes and lakes support a huge variety of bird life as well as resident lion prides. Cheetahs are abundant in the plains, and the wooded ridges are always productive. Relax with 2-full day in the endless plain of Serengeti with game drives – unequalled for its beauty and home to the Great Wildebeest Migration. The huge herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra and antelope dominate the park while the attendant predators such as lion and cheetah are to be found amongst the many kopjes scattered across the plain. Its landscape varies from open grass plains in the south, savanna with scattered acacia trees in the center, hilly, wooded grassland in the north, to extensive woodland and black clay plains to the west.
Depending on your preference, there are a couple of options with regards to how your day is structured in the Serengeti. One option could be to start your day with an early Morning Balloon excursion followed with picnic breakfast at the end, second option is to break camp early and head out with a picnic breakfast on a morning game drive, returning to camp in time for lunch. Alternatively, you can eat breakfast in camp and head out with a picnic lunch on an afternoon game drive, returning in the mid-afternoon. In the evening transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. (with lunch, dinner & breakfast)

After an early breakfast, pack your bags and depart with your driver to Ngorongoro Crater, an early start to the day is best in order to avoid the later influx of tourists into the Ngorongoro Crater. The park gate opens at 0600 Am, so it is best to be there as close to this time as possible. There are a number of lions which are typically larger in size than an average lion due the large amount of game in the area. The crater floor tends to get very busy, with there often being numerous vehicles at any wildlife sighting.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a large, unbroken, un-flooded caldera, formed when a giant volcano erupted and collapsed some three million years ago. Had it not become a caldera, it is possible that the volcanic mountain would be about the same height as Kilimanjaro. The caldera is 600m deep, 16km across and 265 sq km in area. Enjoy the spectacular scenery and game viewing, in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. Many of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhino can be seen grazing on the open grassland of the crater floor, surrounded by some of the 25,000 large animals that occupy the crater, including lion, cheetah, wildebeest, eland, zebra and gazelle. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken ancient volcanic caldera in the world. In 1979 this nearly three-million-year-old area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The former volcano crater is also considered to be “Africa’s Garden of Eden” as it is a haven for thousands of wild games, including lions, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, rhinos, Thomson’s gazelles and buffaloes. The crater is among the 8 Natural Wonders of the World.
